Welcome to Windber AYSO
Please take a few minutes to review the handbook. Everything you need to know is listed there. However, if you should have any questions throughout the season, please feel free to contact any one of the board members. Our AYSO region is a member program of the American Youth Soccer Organization, a nationwide, non-profit youth soccer organization founded in 1964. AYSO is an affiliate member of the United States Soccer Federation. Its programs are based on six principle tenets:
- EVERYONE PLAYS – Our region’s goal is for kids to play soccer – so we mandate that every player on every team must play at least half of every game.
- BALANCED TEAMS – Each year we form new teams as evenly balanced as possible – because it is fair and more fun when teams of equal ability play.
- POSITIVE COACHING – Kids win when they are built up, not when they are torn down! We rain and encourage our coaches to make the extra effort to understand and offer positive help to our players, rather than negative criticism
- OPEN REGISTRATION – Our program is open to all children between 5 and 19 years of age who want to register and play soccer. Interest and enthusiasm are the only criteria.
- GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP – We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect, rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude, and our program is designed to instill good sportsmanship in every facet of AYSO.
- PLAYER DEVELOPMENT – We believe that all players should be able to develop their soccer skills and knowledge to the best of their abilities, both individually and as members of a team, in order to maximize their enjoyment of the game.
A Special Thanks to the Local Sponsors and all others who contribute financially to our organization on a yearly basis.
Remember that each person from the board, coaches and referees, to the picture and uniform parents are volunteers who give countless hours to this program; without them, this season would not be possible. Please consider
volunteering …the more volunteers, the lighter the load for everyone involved. Board meeting dates/times can be found on the website. Feel free to stop in and see/hear what is happening in your local region.
