Windber Girls Basketball Advances in D5-2A Playoffs with 54-39 Victory Over McConnellsburg

The Windber varsity girls basketball team opened the District 5-2A playoffs in impressive fashion, defeating McConnellsburg 54-39 in the first round on Monday night. The Ramblers showcased a balanced offensive attack and a stifling defense to secure their spot in the next round.

Kaylie Gaye led the charge for Windber, putting up a game-high 16 points while dishing out 6 assists to keep the offense flowing. Her court vision and ability to create scoring opportunities were key in breaking down McConnellsburg's defense.

Two other Ramblers, Cailin Jablon and Payton Roxby, contributed double-digit scoring efforts, each adding 10 points to the scoreboard, keeping McConnellsburg on their heels throughout the game. Maggie Manippo added 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds, while Angel James dominated on the defensive end with 7 rebounds and 4 steals, helping Windber control the tempo.

Windber built an early lead in the first half with relentless defensive pressure, forcing turnovers and turning them into fast-break opportunities. McConnellsburg fought hard to close the gap in the third quarter, but the Ramblers' depth and team chemistry proved too much for the Spartans to overcome.

The victory advances Windber to the District 5-2A semifinals, where they'll look to continue their playoff run and build on the momentum from this dominant performance.
