Windber Boys Basketball Displays Grit in Stunning Comeback, Upsets North Star Cougars in District 5 Class 2A Quarterfinal

Boswell, 2/22/24 - In a jaw-dropping District 5 Class 2A quarterfinal showdown, the Windber Boys Basketball team showcased their unwavering resilience, staging a remarkable comeback to upset the North Star Cougars and advance to the next stage of the playoffs.

The Ramblers stormed out of the gates to open the contest, taking a 9-2 advantage. The Cougars clawed their way back into the game but trailed 22-16 after one.North Star flipped the script on Windber in the second, outscoring the Ramblers 17-2 to take a 33-24 lead at the half. However, Windber's defense provided a much-needed jolt with its full-court pressure that led to North Star miscues and buckets at the opposite end.

Key players, including Evan Brady, Grady Klosky, and Tanner Barkley, showcased their skills with clutch shots, steals, and strategic plays that left the crowd on the edge of their seats. Senior Tanner Barkley, who delivered 11 points in the game, scored inside, Evan Brady produced 15 points and seven rebounds while Grady Klosky added 13 points for Windber. Andrew Scalia, who finished with a team-high 16 points and nine rebounds to help the Ramblers edge over the Cougars.

The final buzzer sounded, signaling an incredible turnaround and a triumphant 64-51 victory for the Windber Boys Basketball team. The elation and emotion were palpable as players and fans celebrated the team's ability to overcome adversity and secure their place in the next round of the District 5 Class 2A playoffs.

Coach Slatcoff, commenting on the Boys next challenge traveling to McConnellsburg in the semifinals on Tuesday, February 27th @ 7:00 PM. "They're on the King of the mountain right now, they're the top seed, so to be able to go and do what you want to do and accomplish what you want to acomplish, eventually, you have to beat the best, and right now they're the best. We look forward to accepting the challenge."
